Barnaschone Attorneys proudly supports the Association for the Physically Disabled

The Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled (APD) is a non-profit organisation that proactively promotes the interests of people with locomotor disabilities, and their families, by providing services that enhance the quality of their lives. Most of the people it supports live in impoverished communities, and their main source of income comes from disability grants. APD therefore offers its services for free. This includes everything from assisting clients to access assistive devices such as wheelchairs and crutches, to having social workers visit beneficiaries to help them with things like skills development, finding employment, health care, social integration, and basic needs such as sourcing clothing and food.

Barnaschone Attorneys is proud to support Cape Town’s Association for the Physically Disabled by offering our legal services free of charge. The pro bono work we do for the association allows us to bring professional counsel to people who are sometimes overlooked in society, giving them a voice when they need it most. Often, persons with disabilities don’t usually have the social support to find appropriate solutions to the problems they face, and they are often disadvantaged with respect to opportunities and resources. An organisation such as APD is therefore incredibly valuable to many South Africans.

Currently, APD’s programmes include sewing, vegetable-garden and braai-assembly projects; peer-support training in communities; social-integration initiatives such as wheelchair races and children’s outings; and subsidising the training of 30 care attendants.

Should you wish to support the Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled in any way, visit the organisation’s Facebook page for more information.
